WINTER SPORTS HIGHLIGHTS : Bosco Tech Makes Late Free Throws, Holds Off Alemany Rally for Win

The Bosco Tech Tigers have been erratic, at best, from the free-throw line this season.

Wednesday night at Alemany was no different. But the Tigers hit enough of their foul shots in the final minutes to hold off a frantic Alemany rally and win, 61-58.

The game matched the Del Rey League’s only unbeaten teams. Bosco Tech (17-3, 6-0 in league) now has a one-game lead at the halfway point. Alemany (13-5, 5-1) played without leading scorer and rebounder Dave Swanson, who had the flu.

Bosco Tech Coach Jorge Calienes said he was on the edge of his seat in the closing seconds. Alemany used a trapping zone to cut a 12-point Tiger lead to two and proceeded to foul each time the Tigers had possession.

Bosco Tech guards Dustin Palma and Tom Takeshita hit 7 of 10 free throws in the last two minutes to preserve the win.

Alemany center Bill Lucid had 20 points and 12 rebounds, but was out-manned by Bosco Tech’s Ernie Montanez and Carlos Carrillo, who combined for 31 points. John Beauchemin came off the bench for Alemany to hit several key outside shots.
