Guenther Bosch has quit as the coach of two-time Wimbledon champion Boris Becker after the West German teen-ager’s surprisingly early elimination in the Australian Open, the Bild newspaper reported in Hamburg, West Germany.
Bild said Bosch apparently was angered over Becker’s approach to preparing for the Australian Open and the 19-year-old’s temper tantrums during his loss to unseeded Wally Masur of Australia.
“I can no longer accept the type of attitude with which Boris prepared for this tournament,” Bild quoted Bosch as saying.
“Further collaboration (with Becker) would have made me abandon my personality and put my good name at risk.”
