Orange County Girls’ Prep Basketball : Borum Scores 32 to Lead Magnolia

Dawne Borum, a 5-foot 11-inch junior, scored a career-high 32 points, making 11 of 22 shots as Magnolia High School defeated Western, 55-40, in an Orange League game Thursday night at Western.

Borum also had 13 rebounds and five assists. Katie Donica added 17 points for the Sentinels (3-1, 15-3).

Soli Byrd led Western with nine points. The Pioneers are 1-3 in league.

Brea-Olinda 79, Valencia 60--Carrie Egan scored 34 points and Susan Tousey added 19, leading the Wildcats at Brea. Brea (4-0, 13-3) led by only six at halftime. Steffi Strauss scored 18 for the Tigers.

In the Angelus League:

Mater Dei 59, Bishop Amat 38--Debbie Wagner made 14 of 19 shots, scoring a career-high 28 points as the Monarchs (15-5, 4-0) won at Bishop Amat. Stacy Oughton scored 12 for the Lancers.

In the Century League:

Foothill 60, Villa Park 47--Sue Davis scored 16 points to lead Foothill at Villa Park. Najla Mitchell added 14 and Robin Welch had 12. Villa Park’s Suzie Barnett led all scorers with 27.

El Modena 46, Santa Ana 32--Barbie Olson scored 17 points and Ginger Poat added 11 as the Vanguards (1-3, 4-12) won at Santa Ana. Trina Bruce and Lolly Figueroa each had 10 to lead the Saints (0-4, 4-9).

Canyon 58, Santa Ana Valley 51--Christa Ramirez scored 19 points, Randi Tankratz added 14 and Teri Erkenbrack had 12 points and 14 rebounds to lead the Comanches (3-1, 11-6) at Canyon. Sharon Murrell scored 13 points and had 11 rebounds to lead the Falcons (2-2, 8-5).

In the Freeway League:

Buena Park 57, Sonora 40--Debbie Bellony scored 16 and Kelly Hillard added 13 as the Coyotes (2-2, 9-6) won at Sonora. Kim Ensing led Sonora with 14.

Fullerton 59, Sunny Hills 44--Heidi Shikuma had 25 points and Vicki Silva added 17 to lead the Indians (4-0, 10-6) at Sunny Hills. Kerri Towels led the Lancers with 13.

In the Empire League:

Kennedy 73, Pacifica 46--Ursula Lovely scored a career-high 35 points to lead the Fighting Irish at Pacifica.

Lovely’s career high had been 31 points, set early this season against the Mariners. Lovely, a 5-foot 8-inch senior forward, also had 19 rebounds and 10 assists for the Fighting Irish (6-2, 8-6).

Katella 59, Cypress 54--Serenda Valdez scored 25 points and Joni Easterly added 16 help the first-place Knights (8-0) overcome a 28-26 halftime deficit at Cypress. Diane Pohl and Shawn Murakoshi scored 16 each to lead the Centurions (3-5).

Esperanza 46, Loara 40--Karen Davidson and Laura Jones each scored 32 points to lead the Aztecs at Loara. Carolyn Osato led the Saxons with 15.

In the Pacific Coast League:

Laguna Beach 49, Laguna Hills 28--Shannon Maurice and Liz Stal scored 14 points each to lead the Artists (2-2, 10-5) at Laguna Beach.

The Hawks’ Christy Corebol led all scorers with 17.

In the Sea View League:

Estancia 67, Saddleback 49--Erica Goodman had 20 points and 15 rebounds and Shawna Newburn had 20 points and eight steals, leading Estancia (4-0, 11-6) at Saddleback. Jane Chacon and Lisa Larriva each scored 10 for the Roadrunners (0-4 in league).

Tustin 66, Newport Harbor 37--Melissa Hammond had 14 points and 8 rebounds and Tricia Andres had 12 points, 8 assists and 4 steals as the Tillers won easily at Newport Harbor.

In the South Coast League:

Mission Viejo 59, Capistrano Valley 40--Mission Viejo led by only two points midway through the third quarter but scored 11 straight points, pulling away for a victory at Capistrano Valley. Suzy Powers led the Diablos with 14 points.

In the Sunset League:

Edison 67, Huntington Beach 33--Edison led by only eight at halftime but outscored Huntington Beach in the third quarter, 23-4, to win at Huntington Beach. Kristi Smith scored 23 points and had 14 rebounds for the Chargers (5-0, 20-1).

Marina 47, Fountain Valley 40--Junior center Dawn Charroin scored 22 points and had 13 rebounds to lead the Vikings (2-3, 11-9) at Marina. Jule Dehaven led the Barons (1-4, 11-10) with nine.

Ocean View 57, Westminster 46--Kathy Crain had 13 points and Dalene Lawson 11 as the Seahawks (4-1, 11-7) defeated the Lions (0-5, 8-10) at Westminster.
