San Diego
A San Diego man accidentally shot his father early Friday morning after mistaking him for a burglar he thought had broken into his parents’ Rancho Penasquitos home, police said.
David Bogut, 28, thought his parents were on vacation when he heard someone entering through the front door of their home on Royal Birkdale Row about 1 a.m., said Bill Robinson, police spokesman.
After hearing a voice, Bogut fired two shots from a small-caliber gun, striking his father once in the groin, Robinson said.
Lionel Bogut, 54, was taken to Pomerado Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition, a spokeswoman said.
There will be no criminal prosecution in the shooting, which police called accidental, Robinson said.
