An Alpine man was killed when his pickup truck burst into flames after crashing into the rear of a semi-truck and trailer on Interstate 8 near the West Victoria Drive overpass, authorities reported.
Terry Kenneth Hearne, 31, was pronounced dead at the scene following the 9:55 p.m. accident Thursday, according to Bob Melton, a California Highway Patrol spokesman.
The CHP believes a Tijuana man may have been driving the semi. He is being sought for questioning after fleeing the scene, Melton said.
Witnesses told officers the semi was carrying roofing materials for a Chula Vista company, Melton said.
