Nobody Can Take Away Elway’s 98-Yard Drive
Is it true that Bob Oates once tried to catch a John Elway pass and was branded with the “Elway Cross” from the seams at the point of the football? Why else does he write such unseemly stuff?
For instance, his calling John Elway “erratic” because he threw a first-down interception against the Giants had me in stitches.
In his three-point loss to the Giants, Elway finished on his feet, and considering those who finished on their backs this season against the Giants, that is nothing short of spectacular. Elway will always be remembered for his 98-yard drive against Cleveland, and Oates and Elway’s other detractors cannot take that away from him.
