San Diego High School Basketball : Bahr 17-Footer Wins It for San Dieguito

Chris Bahr hit a 17-footer from the baseline with eight seconds to play to give San Dieguito High School a 26-25 victory over Vista Wednesday night in a Palomar League game.

Both teams slowed the tempo of play from the opening period.

“We used about five or six different offensive sets and we thought we would be very patient,” San Dieguito Coach Brian Daly said.

San Dieguito (5-1, 11-6) held Vista (2-4, 7-10) to two points in the third period, and that basket came at the buzzer. Vista was 10 for 34 from the field.

Bahr scored a game-high 9 points and Jack Minger added 8 for San Dieguito. Mike Fleming and Mike Simmons each scored 6 for Vista.

Orange Glen 67, Poway 45--Steve Klinger scored 19 of his game-high 22 points in the second half to lead host Orange Glen. Dan Early added 14 for Orange Glen (1-5, 5-14). Poway (1-5, 9-9), the three-time defending 3-A San Diego Section champion, is tied for last in the league with Orange Glen.

Mount Carmel 80, Fallbrook 59--Tim Coleman had a perfect game, making 6 of 6 field goals and 8 of 8 free-throw attempts for 20 points. Mike Wasserburger had 22 points and David Gazale had 11 rebounds for Mount Carmel (5-1, 14-3). Fallbrook is 2-4 and 8-12.

AVOCADO LEAGUE

Oceanside 71, Carlsbad 60--Oceanside rallied from an 18-8 deficit in the first period for the victory at Carlsbad. Oceanside (6-0, 12-6) outscored Carlsbad (1-5, 4-11) in the second half, 43-27. Oceanside’s Junior Seau scored a game-high 25 points. Shaun Stoll and Luke Pettorini each scored 15 for Carlsbad.

Escondido 45, Ramona 38--Aaron Cherrington came off the bench to score six straight points in the second period to help Escondido (4-2, 7-8) to a 23-18 lead at the half at Escondido. Paul Baldwin scored 16 points and Scott Campbell added 13 for Escondido. Ramona is 2-4 and 9-8.

El Camino 87, San Pasqual 52--Lee Cobb scored 29 points and had 18 rebounds as El Camino ran away from San Pasqual. El Camino (5-1, 15-3) took the lead with 3:04 left in the first quarter and expanded it to as much as 39 points. Edmond Johnson, the county’s top scorer, had 24 points and Steve Carr added 14 points and 11 rebounds. San Pasqual (0-6, 2-14) was led by Rick Fenner’s 18 points.
