A school crossing guard was injured Wednesday morning on Bristol Street when she was struck by a car changing lanes, police said.

Rocio Morales Rojas, 32, suffered multiple fractures after she was hit in the crosswalk at the 1300 block of South Bristol Street at Wilshire Avenue. She was taken to Fountain Valley Regional Hospital, where she was reported in stable but serious condition in the intensive care unit.

The driver of the car, a 73-year-old Santa Ana man, was not cited in the incident, but an investigation is continuing, according to police spokeswoman Maureen Thomas.

Rojas, who has worked for the city for five years, was wearing a yellow jacket with Santa Ana Police Department patches and was holding a red stop signal in the middle of the crosswalk at the time she was hit, Thomas said. A mother and child, who were crossing the intersection at the time, were not injured.

Most of the children who cross at the intersection attend Martin Elementary School at 39 West Wilshire Ave.
