Marina 71, Huntington Beach 52--Despite playing without leading scorers Mark Georgeson and Steve Guild, the Vikings easily defeated the Oilers at Marina to win the league championship.

Georgeson, a 6-6 center, has bronchitis, and Guild, a 6-6 forward, has the flu, but Matt Hattabaugh came through with 22 points, Mike Meyers had 17 points and David Yamate had 12 points and 15 rebounds for Marina (8-1, 21-3). Rodney Marx scored 21 points for the Oilers (0-9, 4-20).

Fountain Valley 62, Westminster 54--Tom Rochlen scored 22 points and Bob Briggs added 17 to lead the Barons (5-4, 11-10) past the Lions at Westminster.

In the Angelus League:

Servite 79, St. Bernard 77 (4 OT)--Brian Kenney made two free throws with 50 seconds remaining and then hit a 16-foot jump shot with 15 seconds left in the fourth overtime period to lift the Friars past the Vikings at Servite.

Kenney scored 14 points, Nick Marusich had 17 points and Shawn Sullivan added 15 points for the second-place Friars (6-3, 14-10), who clinched a playoff berth. David Whitmore scored 17 points for St. Bernard.

Mater Dei 79, Bishop Amat 65--Kevin Rembert scored 22 points and LeRon Ellis added 21 to lead the Monarchs to the victory at Mater Dei.

Mater Dei improved to 9-0, 23-1. The Lancers, who were led by Geoff Lear (17 points) and Clarence Lamb (15), are 4-5 in the league.

In the Century League:

Santa Ana Valley 56, Canyon 55--Roshawn Lacy scored 15 points and Steve Calhoun added 12 as the Falcons upset Canyon at Santa Valley. The Falcons (4-5) can qualify for the Southern Section 4-A division playoffs with a victory over Santa Ana Friday night.

Foothill 75, Villa Park 45--Guard Doug Kopcha scored 20 points and center Greg Reiber had 11 to help the second-place Knights (7-2, 15-10) over the Spartans (1-8, 5-16) at Foothill.

Santa Ana 61, El Modena 44--After a 16-16 first-quarter tie, the Saints outscored El Modena 22-7 in the second quarter for a 38-23 lead at halftime. Bobby Joyce led the second quarter drive with 11 of his total 17 points.

In the Empire League:

Kennedy 80, Los Alamitos 76 (OT)--Irish forwards Wendell Lauderdale and Michael Keith combined for 20 points in the final 5:23 as Kennedy upset the fourth-ranked Griffins at Los Alamitos.

“I wasn’t about to lose that game,” Lauderdale said. “We worked so hard for this and we’re going to be the second-place team (in the Empire League).”

The victory leaves Kennedy (10-3, 16-7) one game behind Los Alamitos (11-2, 18-5) in league play with one game remaining.

Irish Coach John Mayberry was especially proud of the school’s first victory in the Griffins’ gymnasium.

“We don’t have any superstars,” Mayberry said. “But we have a great team.”

Keith led Kennedy with 22 points while Lauderdale and guard Danny Davidson each added 18 points. Los Alamitos was led by seniors Mo Warner and Rick Helms with 19 points each.
