Orange County College Baseball : Seeburger Leads UCI Past Pomona, 9-1

First baseman John Seeburger went 4 for 5 with six runs batted in, including a grand slam in the bottom of the eighth inning, Wednesday to lead the UC Irvine baseball team to a 9-1 victory over Cal Poly Pomona in a nonconference game at Irvine.

Bronco starter Rene Isenhart struck out 14 batters in six innings, but the Anteaters, with the score tied, 1-1, loaded the bases with two out in the seventh. Isenhart balked home the go-ahead run, and Seeburger followed with a two-run double to center field.

Gabby Rodriguez (2-0) went the distance on a four-hitter and struck out nine for the Anteaters (4-6). Pomona is 3-7.

UC Riverside 20, Southern California College 7--Brent Webber hit two home runs, one in the fifth inning and one in the sixth, to help the Highlanders defeat the Vanguards in a game that was called because of darkness in the bottom of the eighth at Riverside.

The Highlanders (6-1) had 16 hits. Carlos Salazar hit a grand slam in the fourth inning for SCC (1-5).
