Orange County Tennis Roundup : UCI Defeats 17th-Ranked Northeast Louisiana, 6-3

The UC Irvine men’s tennis team defeated No. 17-ranked Northeast Louisana, 6-3, Saturday at Irvine.
Irvine (4-4) was led by Mark Kaplan, who defeated Ville Jansson, 3-6, 6-2, 6-4, in the No. 1 singles match. Kaplan improved his record to 14-4. In doubles, Irvine’s No. 10-ranked team of Julian Barnham and Darren Yates defeated No. 13-ranked Jansson and Sean Cole, 6-4, 6-3.
In other action:
Cal State San Bernardino 9, Christ College Irvine 0--The Christ College men’s team dropped to 1-2 and San Bernardino improved to 2-0 after this match at San Bernardino. Christ College will play host to Azusa Pacific Thursday at 2 p.m.
In the San Diego Intercollegiate Tennis Tournament
Chapman College’s Miles Walker defeated Kevin Gillette of Cal State Long Beach, 7-6, 7-6, Saturday to win the Nos. 1 and 2 men’s tennis singles championship.
Players were placed in three different brackets--Nos. 1 and 2, Nos. 3 and 4, and Nos. 5 and 6--according to their team rankings.
In the Nos. 5 and 6 consolation championship, Chapman’s Barry Hancock (Foothill High School) defeated Nelson Emery of Cal State Bakersfield, 6-4, 6-1.
In women’s tennis:
Cal State San Bernardino 8, Christ College 1--Deanne Tegmeier defeated Kim Freeman, 6-3, 6-3, for Christ College’s only victory. The Christ College women will play at Biola Tuesday at 2 p.m.
