The Solana Beach City Council has agreed to allow Club Diego’s, a popular nightspot along Old Highway 101, to double its occupancy to handle 621 patrons.

With a long-running battle over parking apparently eased, the council voted 3-2 on Tuesday night to permit the club to hike its occupancy limit from the 300 people previously allowed.

The club has 97 parking slots but had been trying to develop an extra parking lot across the busy coast highway, an idea that troubled city officials.

Recently, however, Diego’s owners decided to take a different tack, leasing a 200-space lot adjacent to the club for the use of its patrons.

Mayor Margaret Schlesinger and council members Jack Moore and Marian Dodson supported the idea of increasing Diego’s occupancy, while council members Celine Olson and Richard Heinlin dissented.
