CITY SECTION : BASKETBALL PLAYOFFS : GIRLS : DeCree Scores 23 in Kennedy Win

Diane DeCree scored 23 points and had 18 rebounds to lead Kennedy High to a 67-22 victory over Manual Arts Friday night in a first-round City Section 4-A Division playoff game at Kennedy.

Kennedy (19-3), seeded No. 1 in the playoffs, jumped out to a 10-0 lead and held the Lady Toilers scoreless for the first 5:15 of the game. The Golden Cougars, aided by 30 Manual Arts turnovers, led, 18-2, after one period, 32-7, at the half, and 50-15 after three quarters.

DeCree hit 11 of 21 shots and got plenty of offensive help from Tisa Rush (18 points) and Yolanda Lewis (12).

“DeCree is awfully tough to handle. She’s outside, she’s inside, she’s everywhere,” Kennedy Coach Craig Raub said.

Manual Arts (3-13), which made the playoffs despite going 0-10 in the Mid-City League, was led by Lashun Thomas’ eight points. Kim Brathwaite added six points and 12 rebounds.
