Driver Injured as Car Knocks Down Streetlight Pole
An 18-year-old Newhall man was critically injured Thursday when he crashed into a concrete lamppost in Canyon Country, the California Highway Patrol said.
The motorist, Kenneth Irvin, was westbound on Soledad Canyon Road west of Deep Creek Drive when his car went off the road, bounced off a wall and hit the post, which crashed down on his car and caved in the roof, Officer Ralph Elvira said.
Irvin had been delivering food for his employer, a Chinese restaurant in Canyon Country, Elvira said.
Several people who witnessed the accident lifted the post off the car, and Fire Department personnel cut the wrecked car open to remove Irvin, Elvira said.
Irvin, who suffered multiple injuries, was transported by helicopter to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital in Valencia, the officer said.
