Mater Dei, West Torrance in Soccer Final Tonight

Unseeded Mater Dei High School of Santa Ana will play No. 4-seeded West Torrance for the Southern Section 4-A boys’ soccer championship at 8 tonight at Gahr High in Cerritos.

West Torrance (22-5-0) upset No. 1 Westlake in the semifinals, and Mater Dei (24-2-1) upset second-seeded Simi Valley Royal in a quarterfinal, then edged South Torrance on penalty kicks in a semifinal.

In the Southern Section 4-A girls’ soccer final, top-seeded defending co-champion Mission Viejo (26-0-1) will play No. 2 Torrance (22-2-4) at 6 p.m., also at Gahr.
