CS Long Beach’s Women Win Final Over UNLV, 98-57
Penny Toler, the most valuable player in the Pacific Coast Athletic Assn. women’s basketball tournament, scored 22 of her 26 points in the first half Saturday to lead fourth-ranked Cal State Long Beach to a 98-57 victory over Nevada Las Vegas in the championship game.
Toler also had 6 assists in the first 20 minutes as the 49ers took a 50-21 lead. She finished with 10 assists.
Cindy Brown had 33 points and 8 rebounds; Shannon Smith scored 12 points, and Shameil Holman had a game-high 13 rebounds for the 49ers, who raised their record to 30-2.
Cynthia Thomas led Nevada Las Vegas, which fell to 21-9, with 16 points.
