Share

Royal pitcher Jim Dollar benefited from a fortunate bounce to get his way out of the first inning and the Highlanders went to defeat Santa Clara, 9-0, on Wednesay at Royal.

With two out and the bases loaded, Dollar (1-0) threw a wild pitch past catcher Travis Kinyoun. But Kinyoun played the carom off the backstop perfectly and threw to Dollar, who easily tagged out Robbie Knight trying to score from third.

In the bottom of the first, Royal (1-0-1) struck for three runs on doubles by J.P. Hardy and Joe Summers and singles by Mike Kinnaman and Dan Presta. Royal added four more runs in the second inning.
