Giuseppe Saronni of Italy won a sprint at the finish to take the third leg of the Tirenno-Adriatico cycling race at Porto Recanti, Italy, while Teun Van Vliet of the Netherlands held onto the overall lead.
Saronni covered the 96-mile course from Pineto to Porto Recanti in 4 hours 31 minutes 51 seconds for an average speed of 21 m.p.h.
American Greg Lemond withdrew with a broken wrist suffered Saturday.
