Orange County Prep Baseball : Carabba Leads Marina to Victory

Robbie Carabba went 2 for 3 with one RBI and one run scored to lead Marina High School to a 5-1 victory over Dana Hills in a fifth-place Loara tournament baseball game at Dana Hills.

Danny Jensen (3-0) gave up three hits, walked four and struck out five for the Vikings (6-1). Steve Jio’s first-inning triple scored Carabba.

Jay Hollis allowed three hits and struck out six in three innings for Dana Hills (4-3). Denny Papp went 2 for 4 with a double in the second for the Dolphins, and Greg Erickson scored on a sacrifice fly by Ron Openshaw in the third.

La Quinta 5, Irvine 2--Mike Wilson (3-0) pitched his third shutout of the season to lead the Aztecs (4-1) at La Quinta. Wilson allowed nine hits and struck out eight. La Quinta scored four runs in the fourth off two walks, two errors and two doubles. David Goldstein allowed two hits and struck out one in five innings for the Vaqueros (2-3).

In the Newport/Tustin/Santa Ana tournament:

Newport Harbor 7, Saddleback 4--Ed Milum went 2 for 3 with a home run and one RBI to lead the Sailors at Newport Harbor. Teammate Pat Maynard went 2 for 3 with two singles, two runs and one RBI. Jeff Gleuck (1-0) gave up four hits and struck out two in six innings for Newport harbor (3-1).

In the Serra tournament:

El Dorado JV 16, Orange Lutheran 3--Shawn Facione hit a three-run home run in the fifth and Matt Luke followed with a homer to lead the Golden Hawks in a second-round game at Orange Lutheran. Paul Saito had two doubles and four RBIs for El Dorado (7-0). Crosby Spencer (2-0) gave up seven hits and struck out seven in five innings for the Golden Hawks. Orange Lutheran dropped to 4-3.

In nonleague games:

Laguna Hills 12, La Serna 1--Mike Helm went 3 for 3 with one RBI and Arron Arredondo went 2 for 2 with three RBIs to lead the Hawks at Laguna Hills. Allan Short (3-0) gave up two hits and struck out five, and Jay Christensen had a home run in the sixth for Laguna Hills (4-2).

Troy 3, Edgewood 1--Mike Case, Jeff Ferren and Mike Pawlawski each scored in the first inning to lead the Warriors (4-1) at Troy. Sophomore Tom Wilson (2-0) gave up five hits, one run and struck out seven for Troy. Anthony Montoya had a home run for Edgewood (2-3).

Pacifica 17, Los Amigos 0--Mike Short had a two-run home run in the third and Oscar Ravello’s triple scored two more to lead the Mariners (3-3) at Los Amigos. Todd Long allowed two hits and struck out two in four innings.

Millikan 12-2, Fountain Valley 3-3--Bob Crane pitched a three-hitter and struck out three for the Rams (4-3) at Blair Field in Long Beach. In the 10-inning second game, John Pineda (1-1) allowed two hits and struck out five in the last two innings for Fountain Valley. Chris Neria went 2 for 4 with a double and two runs scored, including the game-winner in the 10th for Fountain Valley (2-4).
