Tennis Roundup : Walker Leads Chapman Past Cal State Hayward

The Chapman College men’s tennis team, ranked second in NCAA Division II, won five of six singles matches and two doubles matches Thursday en route to a 7-2 nonconference victory over Cal State Hayward at Orange.
The Panthers’ Miles Walker, the No. 3 player in Division II, beat Hayward’s Mauricio Achondo, 4-6, 7-5, 6-3, in the No. 1 singles match. Achondo is ranked second among Division II players. Chapman improved to 11-7, while Hayward dropped to 7-4.
The No. 2 doubles team of Julian Barham and Darren Yates defeated Jari Koho and Antti Eranne, 6-7, 6-2, 7-6, to give UC Irvine a 5-4 victory over Utah Thursday at Irvine.
Mark Kaplan, UCI’s No. 1 player, won his ninth consecutive match and raised his record to 23-6 with a 6-4, 7-5 victory over Brian Monson. UCI is 17-8. Utah is 9-10.
