Simi Valley High extended its winning streak to 10 games Friday afternoon, but it took the Pioneers 11 innings and 3 hours and 15 minutes to do so.

Marcus Lockwood ended the marathon with a three-run home run with one-out in the 11th inning to give Simi Valley an 11-9 win over Channel Islands in a Marmonte League game at Simi Valley.

The lead changed hands seven times and both teams squandered numerous scoring opportunities; Simi Valley stranded 15 baserunners.

Channel Islands scored in the top of the 11th to take a 9-8 lead, but Simi Valley reliever Mike Laker pitched out of a bases-loaded, no-out jam.

Simi Valley (11-1 overall, 5-0 in league) had loaded the bases in the seventh with a chance to end the game in regulation but failed to score. Lockwood was the second out of the inning, striking out with the bases loaded. But he redeemed himself in the 11th with his third home run of the year, hitting a 3-and-2 pitch over the left-field fence.

The game marked the second time this year Simi Valley has won dramatically in its last at-bat in an extra-inning game. On March 11, Scott Sharts hit a grand slam in the bottom of the eighth to give Simi Valley an 8-7 win over Canoga Park.

Laker, who had previously pitched no more than two innings, threw the final 9 innings to pick up his first win of the year. Laker was helped by his brother, Tim, who was 3 for 6 with a run batted in, and Sharts, who was 3 for 4 with an RBI. Darren Lloyd was 2 for 4 with 3 RBIs and Greg Gerber was 2 for 6 with 2 RBIs.

Simi Valley hit four home runs and has 21 in 12 games. In addition to Lockwood, Simi Valley got home runs from Gerber, Tim Laker and Lloyd.

In another Marmonte League game at Royal, John Stephens hit a two-run double, sparking a four-run third inning and Jim Henderson drove in the winning run in the fourth as Westlake edged Royal, 5-4. Mike Suarez had three hits, a stolen base and also scored a run.

Pinch-hitter Paul Fell’s single in the top of the seventh inning capped a five-run rally as Crespi tied Loyola, 9-9, in a Del Rey League game at Loyola. The game was called on account of darkness. Greg Connolly pitched 5 innings of relief and allowed two runs for Crespi (8-2-1, 3-0-1). He was replaced by Chris Spears, who struck out the last two batters of the game with a runner on second to preserve the tie.
