Travis Regnolds (4-2) threw a complete-game one-hitter and recorded 15 strikeouts and was 3 for 5 with 3 RBIs and two doubles as Canyon defeated Ridgecrest Burroughs, 11-1, in a Golden League game. . . . Dean Yoshitani hit a grand slam with two outs in the top of the seventh to erase a 3-1 deficit and lead Granada Hills (4-3) to a 5-4 Mid-Valley League win. Kennedy (4-3) loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the seventh and scored one run, but Vladimir Pajcin lined into a double play and Pat DeBoer grounded out to end the game. . . . Randy Guerrero hit a grand slam in the seventh to lead San Fernando to a 10-3 victory over Van Nuys in a Mid-Valley League game. Frank Serna pitched five shutout innings, giving up four hits and striking out three for San Fernando (6-1).

Dan Meehan, who last week threw a no-hitter, came out of the bullpen in the second inning and settled down to pitch four shutout innings as Birmingham (4-3) defeated Monroe, 13-11, in a Mid-Valley League game. . . . Aaron Marks had three hits, including a two-run homer in the first, and drove in four runs to lead Canoga Park (4-3) to a 12-3 West Valley League victory over Cleveland (3-4). Adam Schulhofer went 2 for 3 with a homer and three RBIs and pitched six innings, striking out nine, to earn the victory.

Montclair Prep reliever J.R. Smith gave up three hits and one run in the final three innings, but the Mounties (11-2, 5-1) lost to Western Christian, 8-2, and had their 11-game winning streak broken in an Alpha League game. . . . Kurt Keitzman’s squeeze-bunt single drove in Matt McElreath in the bottom of the seventh to give Notre Dame (6-5-1, 4-1-1) a 3-2 Del Rey League victory over St. John Bosco and vault the Knights into first place. . . . E.J. Pape was 3 for 4 with a two-run home run as Burroughs (6-7, 2-4) defeated San Gabriel, 7-4, in a Foothill League game. Shawn Perry, making his first varsity pitching performance, went the distance for Burroughs. . . . David Lee went 3 for 4 and pitched 5 innings to earn the win as Hart (9-4, 4-2) defeated Alhambra, 6-3, in a Foothill League game.

Burbank led, 4-1, going into the seventh inning but Schurr (4-2) used five hits and two errors to rally for a 5-4 Foothill League win over Burbank (3-3). . . . Alfonso Martinez went 3 for 4, but Rio Mesa (7-6, 2-4) dropped a 5-1 Channel League decision to Santa Barbara. . . . Mike Maggoria went 2 for 4 and scored three runs and Scott Heflin was 3 for 4, but Agoura (3-5, 1-4) lost to Nordhoff, 11-8, in a Frontier League game. . . . Calabasas committed three errors in the fourth as Santa Clara (4-2) scored four runs in a 9-4 Frontier League victory. Ceo Wimmer had four hits for Calabasas (3-3). . . . Steve Risinger (4-0) pitched visiting Saugus (7-3,5-1) to a 7-3 Golden League victory over Palmdale (2-3).

Marc Williams threw a one-hitter as Oakwood (3-0, 1-0) defeated Cal Prep, 17-1, in a Liberty League game. Williams had 11 strikeouts and three walks. Cal Prep’s only run came in the seventh on Williams’ failed pickoff attempt at third base. . . . Emilo Gomez went 3 for 3, scored three runs and had two RBIs as Queen of Angels (3-6, 2-0) defeated Southwestern, 12-9, in a Liberty League game. . . . Junior right-hander Aaron Rudelson (5-1) threw a four-hitter and struck out 12 and was 3 for 4 at the plate with three stolen bases as Highland Hall (7-4, 2-0) defeated Grace Community, 8-3, in a Westside League game.

Steve Dempsey picked up his first victory of the season as L.A. Lutheran (2-8-1) won its second straight Alpha League game, defeating Marshall Fundamental, 5-3. Dempsey (1-5) threw a two-hitter, struck out 13 and allowed no earned runs. He also went 3 for 3, stole two bases and scored a run. . . . Sophomore pitcher Rod Arancibia threw a three-hitter, striking out nine, to lead Bell-Jeff to a 5-0 Santa Fe League win over Salesian (0-5 in league). Sheamus Martin went 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs and David Yasumi was 2 for 3 for Bell-Jeff (4-7, 4-2).

Jack Leighton’s solo home run in the seventh gave St. Genevieve (4-2) a 3-2 Santa Fe League victory over Chaminade. Bill Bloodgood went 4 for 4 for Chaminade (3-2). . . . Harvard (5-6, 2-3) managed just three hits off Mike Sanchez, dropping a 4-2 Santa Fe League decision to Pater Noster. . . . Coutin (0-10) surrendered seven runs--five unearned--in the third inning in a 14-11 nonleague loss to First Lutheran. Brad Hirsch and Corey Breslow were both 2 for 4 with 3 RBIs for Coutin. . . . Jason Orenstein’s grand slam and six RBIs keyed Oak Park (5-4, 3-2) to a 15-2 Tri-Valley League win over Moorpark (3-6, 2-4).

SOFTBALL

Kym Bailey (5-0) pitched a shutout on her 16th birthday as Burbank defeated Schurr, 5-0, in a Foothill League opener. A triple by Jennifer Gomez, who was 3 for 3, and three hits by Kim White paced Burbank (14-1, 1-0). . . . Royal (11-4, 4-1) scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth in a 3-2 victory over Simi Valley (12-4, 3-2) in a Marmonte League game. Coleen Walker (7-3) gave up one earned run in pitching the complete-game victory. . . . Robin Thomas drove in the winning run with a single and pitched a four-hitter as Newbury Park (10-3, 5-0) defeated Thousand Oaks, 3-1, in a Marmonte League game at Thousand Oaks (7-4, 4-1).
