BOYS PREP TEAM

BOYS

Sean Davis: Davis almost single-handedly made El Camino Real a respectable team. The 6-4 senior forward averaged 19.8 points and 13.6 rebounds a game in the competitive Valley 4-A League.

Kevin Franklin: The best shooter in the Valley, Franklin led the City Section and the Valley in scoring with a 31.6 average. The 6-4 senior guard, who is a returning All-Valley player, scored 79 points in two games against City 4-A champion Fairfax.

Gary Gray: Gray, a 6-9 senior center, led Granada Hills to the City 3-A championship and averaged 26.2 points and 14.0 rebounds. Gray, a returning All-Valley player, scored 25 points and had 17 rebounds in the City final.

Paul Keenan: Westlake was a surprise team in the playoffs, advancing to the Southern Section 4-A final before losing to Santa Monica. Keenan’s most memorable performance was his 38-point game in a quarterfinal win over Muir. A 6-5 senior forward, Keenan averaged 16.0 points.

Don MacLean: MacLean, a junior, was named Ventura County and Marmonte League Player of the Year. A 6-10 center and returning All-Valley player, MacLean averaged 24.7 points and 11.3 rebounds in leading Simi Valley to a 26-2 record.

Marcus Malone: An exceptional athlete, Malone (6-4) played guard on defense and forward on offense for Kennedy. Malone, a senior and returning All-Valley player, averaged 16.5 points and 8.6 rebounds.

Ennerea Maxwell: Unheralded before the season, Maxwell led Birmingham (22-3) to the City Section 3-A final. The 6-6 senior center averaged 16.7 points and 11.3 rebounds per game.

Rusty Morse: Morse--and Saugus--had a phenomenal postseason and won the Southern Section 3-A championship. A 6-4 senior forward, Morse averaged 16.7 points, 5.4 rebounds and 3.3 blocked shots.

David Swanson: Alemany was co-champion of the Del Rey League behind the play of Swanson, a 6-5 senior forward who averaged 18.5 points and 10.7 rebounds a game. Swanson also rates as one of the Valley’s best high-jumpers.

Steve Ward: A returning All-Valley player, Ward is an excellent shooter. The 6-4 senior averaged 25.2 points a game for Calabasas. He played guard on offense and forward on defense.

GIRLS PREP TEAM GIRLS

Julie Arlotto: A returning All-Valley player, Arlotto has an excellent shooting touch. The senior forward averaged 19.4 points and 9.2 rebounds a game for Simi Valley, the Marmonte League champion.

Jenny Beubis: A sharp-shooting 5-7 senior guard, Beubis averaged 16.0 points, 5.8 rebounds and 5.0 assists a game for Alemany. Beubis, a returning All-Valley player, will attend Columbia University.

Diane DeCree: DeCree, a returning All-Valley player and this season’s City 4-A Player of the Year, led Kennedy to its second straight City championship. A 6-1 senior forward who excels on defense, DeCree averaged 18.6 points and 16.0 rebounds a game.

Lynn Flanagan: A 5-8 senior guard, Flanagan helped Louisville to the San Fernando Valley League title. Flanagan, who will attend Loyola Marymount, averaged 16 points, 8.3 rebounds and 5.6 assists a game.

Debbie Herz: Herz led North Hollywood to the West Valley League title and the City 3-A final. A 6-0 senior center, Herz averaged 16.4 points and 14.7 rebounds a game and scored 22 points in the final.

Dana Jones: A 5-7 senior forward, Jones scored 23 points to lead Reseda to the City 3-A championship. Jones, who will play at San Jose State, averaged 15 points and 9.3 rebounds a game.

Andrea Knapp: A returning All-Valley player, Knapp averaged 23.9 points and 10.4 rebounds a game. The 6-2 senior center choose to play at Cal during the early signing period.

Jennifer Kroll: A 5-11 senior forward, Kroll averaged 14.5 points and 8.1 rebounds for Alemany. Kroll is a returning All-Valley player who will attend Northwestern.

Tisa Rush: The only underclassman on the All-Valley team, Rush directed the Kennedy running game that helped the Golden Cougars to the City 4-A title. The 5-6 junior guard averaged 18.5 points a game.

Kristie Sterbens: Sterbens, a senior guard, shared Marmonte League Player of the Year honors with teammate Julie Arlotto after leading Simi Valley to the league title. Sterbens averaged 8.6 points and 4.5 assists a game.

The Valley’s Player of the Year and Coach of the Year for boys and girls basketball will be announced Sunday at The Times awards breakfast at the Anaheim Hilton. The All-Valley first team for boys and girls will be honored.
