HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL : Faith Baptist’s 2 Slams Are Just Enough, 10-9

Rich Leon and Danny McAdoo each hit a grand slam, but Faith Baptist High needed two runs in the the sixth to beat Providence, 10-9, in a Delphic League baseball game Friday at Faith Baptist.

Providence opened a 7-0 lead after two innings, but Faith Baptist came back in the third and fourth innings with the big homers.

Providence (8-5-1, 0-1 in league) scored a run in the seventh to cut Faith Baptist’s lead to 10-9 and had a chance to tie with two on and two out. But Todd Stadig struck out the next batter to end the game.

In a Marmonte League game at Westlake, Chris Bannon’s squeeze bunt broke a 3-3 tie as Camarillo beat Westlake, 6-3. Steve Biggs (1-0) threw a four-hitter. . . . Mike Stein was 2 for 2, but Newbury Park (5-9-1, 2-3-1) dropped a 6-0 Marmonte League decision to Channel Islands (4-2).

Crespi, led by Joe Testa’s home run, exploded for six runs in the second inning and beat Bosco Tech, 9-2, in a Del Rey League game at Bosco Tech. Sophomore right-hander Chad Nichols (4-0) scattered seven hits and struck out four. . . . John Beauchemin and Mike Rooney hit back-to-back home runs in the third inning to lead Alemany to a 4-2 Del Rey League victory over Loyola (6-6-2, 1-3-2). Rooney moved from first base to the pitcher’s mound in the seventh with Loyola runners on second and third and one out, then struck out the next two batters to save the game for Alemany (12-5, 3-3).

Will Sellman and David Lee had two hits apiece to lead Harvard (6-6, 3-3) to a 10-3 Santa Fe League win at St. Genevieve (5-6, 4-3). . . . La Salle (9-3, 7-0) pounded out seven hits, including five doubles, in the first inning for six runs in a 7-3 Sante Fe League victory over Chaminade (4-7, 3-3).

Tom Ressler belted two home runs and drove in seven to lead Bell-Jeff to an 8-4 Santa Fe League victory at Pater Noster. Ressler also had an RBI single for Bell-Jeff (6-8, 5-2).

Ignacio Izaguirre was 2 for 3 as Queen of Angels (4-6, 3-0) posted an 8-3 Liberty League decision over Windward (2-1).

Larry Hatley (3-3) tossed a five-hitter to lead Burroughs to a 7-1 Foothill League victory over San Gabriel (3-9, 1-5) and a sweep of the three-game series--the first time Burroughs has ever swept a season series from a Foothill opponent. Rick Hoban was 3 for 4 for Burroughs (7-7, 3-4).

Wayne Schull pitched a three-hitter and Jeff Scott hit a two-run single as Burbank (9-3, 4-3) blanked Schurr, 3-0, in a Foothill League game at Burbank. Schull (3-0) lowered his earned-run average to 1.01.

Travis Regnolds was 3 for 3 and drove in five runs in Canyon’s 6-3 Golden League victory over Palmdale. Canyon’s Ken Sollom (4-3) allowed just one hit over the first four innings to earn the victory.
