Tacoma Rallies With 3 Quick Goals and Overcomes Lazers For a 6-5 Win

The Tacoma Stars, the Major Indoor Soccer League’s Western Division leader, came from behind with three goals in less than two minutes of the third quarter Sunday and beat the last-place Lazers, 6-5.

Gerry Gray scored on a break-away for Tacoma to tie the score, 2-2, with 5:08 gone in the third quarter.

Then Billy Crook scored to put the Stars ahead for good, 3-2. Steve Zungul scored 32 seconds later.

Tacoma had a two-man advantage midway through the third quarter after concurrent penalties against the Lazers, but could not capitalize on it.

The Lazers’ Chris Chueden scored with 1:50 left in the third quarter, but Joe Waters’ third goal of the season gave the Stars a 5-3 lead 3:20 into the fourth quarter.

Stuart Lee gave the Lazers a goal at 3:52 before Zungul gained his 94th hat trick in his eight-year MISL career with 5:35 remaining.

Chueden scored the Lazers’ last goal with 4:26 to go.

Don Ebert opened the scoring with a goal for the Lazers 4:45 into the first quarter. Zungul countered on a power play after 6:51 of the period. The Lazers led again, 2-1, on Thompson Usiyan’s goal 3:01 into the second quarter.

Tacoma blocked 14 shots to pull within one of the league season record.
