CSUN Track Teams to Face Cal Poly SLO, Chapman in Double-Dual Meets Today

The Cal State Northridge track teams will play host to perennial NCAA Division II power Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and Chapman College at noon today in double-dual meets at CSUN.

The San Luis Obispo women (4-1) are the defending California Collegiate Athletic Assn. champions and placed second at the 1986 Division II championships. The men’s team (1-4) placed second in the CCAA meet in 1986.

Freshmen Darcy Arreola and Walt Stewart will lead CSUN. The men’s team is 5-2; the women are 6-1.

Arreola, who has qualified for the Division II championships in three events, will run in the 800 and 400 meters and Stewart will compete in the high jump.

In high school track, Thousand Oaks and Notre Dame are entered in the Mt. Carmel invitational in Poway. Sharon Manship and Staci Leach of Thousand Oaks and Tom Parker of Notre Dame head the list of local entries.

Manship has entered the 100- and 300-meter low hurdles and the triple jump. Leach will run in both hurdles and the 100 meters. Manship and Leach also will run in the 400-meter relay.

Parker, who has a personal best of 15-9, will attempt to break the 16-foot barrier in the pole vault.
