Ailing Girl Fulfills Dream of Swimming With Dolphins, Dies
A girl who died two days after realizing her dream of swimming with dolphins will have her ashes scattered among the mammals she loved, her mother said today.
Lee Katherine White, 15, of Charlotte, N.C., died of cancer in her family’s camper in Tavernier early Saturday.
Two days before, Lee had visited the Dolphin Research Center on Grassy Key to swim with the seagoing mammals.
“Lee asked to be cremated and put in the ocean with a school of dolphins,” said her mother, Ruth. “Tuesday afternoon we’ll rent a boat and go out in the ocean and look for dolphins and give her what she wanted.”
