QB Kelly Stouffer Is in the Eye of the Falcons, Too

Are the Raiders really interested in drafting quarterback Kelly Stouffer of Colorado State?

And if they are, will they be able to?

“That Kelly Stouffer thing is not going to happen,” said an NFL personnel director Tuesday. “Atlanta (which has the 13th choice to the Raiders’ 15th in Tuesday’s draft) was up there (Fort Collins, Colo.,) last weekend and they’re really impressed with the guy. I don’t think he’ll last.”

The visit was made by Falcon Coach Marion Campbell and quarterback coach Rod Dowhower. Earlier, Stouffer had worked out for Coach Tom Flores and quarterback coach Larry Kennan of the Raiders; Coach Al Saunders of the San Diego Chargers, who have the fifth pick in the draft; and the offensive coaches of the Seattle Seahawks, who will draft 18th.

The Chargers’ pick may be too high for Stouffer who is described as talented but unpolished. The two most widely circulated mock drafts have San Diego taking Auburn tailback Brent Fullwood or Miami fullback Alonzo Highsmith.

The Falcons and Raiders are thought to be deciding between two quarterback prospects, Stouffer and Oregon’s Chris Miller. Flores worked Miller out in Eugene, too. Stouffer is the bigger of the two and has the stronger arm. But Campbell, like the Raiders, prizes deep throwers.
