The Wildcats scored four runs in the first inning off starter Dennis Burbank (7-2). He lasted two innings and gave up seven runs and seven hits, including three of the four Brea-Olinda home runs.

Brea-Olinda starter Shon Riley (2-1) allowed two runs in the first six innings. In the seventh, Riley gave up a two-run home run to Rudy Lopez before being replaced by senior Gary Chiotti.

Chiotti got Brett Gregory to line out, but Mike Edwards hit a fastball over the center-field fence. Chiotti gave up two more hits, then retired the next two hitters to earn the save.

“We knew this was a very big game going in,” said Steve Hiskey, Brea-Olinda coach. “We could not let Burbank strike out 10 or 12 and dictate the game, but we knew we had to put the ball in play and did just that.”
