Orange County College Baseball : Titans Blow 7-0 Lead and Lose at Fresno, 11-9

Fresno State collected 18 hits off three Cal State Fullerton pitchers as the Bulldogs rallied from a 7-0 deficit to defeat the Titans, 11-9, in a Pacific Coast Athletic Assn. baseball game Saturday night on Beiden Field at Fresno.

After Fullerton (12-2, 34-14) scored seven runs in the second, the Bulldogs (7-7, 30-21) scored five runs in the third and two in both the sixth and seventh innings to take a 9-7 lead.

The Titans scored two in the top of the eighth to tie the game, but Fresno scored two in the bottom of the eighth for the victory.

Tony Trevino was 4 for 5 with a run scored and an RBI, and Greg Mannion went 2 for 3 with two runs scored and an RBI for the Titans. Mark Razook hit a two-run homer in the second inning for Fullerton.

Gary Buckels (3-3) pitched 2 innings, allowing four runs and four hits, for the loss. Buckels relieved starter Mike Harkey, who pitched 5 innings and allowed seven runs.

In other PCAA action:

Nevada Las Vegas 6, UC Irvine 5--The Rebels (6-8, 23-20) took a 6-0 lead in the fourth on their way to a victory on Anteater Field. The Anteaters (7-7, 20-24-1) rallied for three runs in the seventh inning on two hits and two errors. UCI added two runs in the ninth on a walk, error, balk and groundout. John Seeburger went 3 for 4 with a double for Irvine.

In the California Collegiate Athletic Assn.:

Cal Poly Pomona 11-7, Chapman 5-1--The Broncos’ Keith Barrett was 3 for 5 with a home run, double and five RBIs in the first game. Darren Nelson was 3 for 5 with a double and his 65th RBI for Chapman (10-12, 22-25).

In the nightcap, left-hander Charlie Webb (10-4) pitched a seven-hitter and stuck out two with no walks for Pomona (14-8, 28-23).

In the Golden State Athletic Conference:

Southern California 3-3, Cal Lutheran 2-6--Joe Holden drove in Jeff Motske with a single in the bottom of the seventh to lead the Vanguards in the opener. Holden was 3 for 4 with two RBIs in the first game. Mike Lomeli (11-5) scattered seven hits and struck out five for SCC in the seven-inning game.

In the second game, Cal Lutheran took advantage of eight Vanguard walks and seven hits to gain a split. Holden and Steve Overeem were both 2 for 5 with an RBI in the second game for SCC (10-7, 18-27).
