Free agent Tim Raines, who has missed...
Free agent Tim Raines, who has missed the first month of the season after failing to join a new team, will rejoin the Montreal Expos when he signs a three-year contract worth $4.8 million later this week, according to the Toronto Globe and Mail newspaper.
On Friday, free agents who are still unsigned may negotiate with their former clubs, an option that had not been available to them since Jan. 8.
Pitcher Ron Guidry of the New York Yankees and Boston catcher Rich Gedman are also expected to return to their former clubs.
Raines had rejected the Expos’ three-year, $4.8 million offer, but could not get a better offer elsewhere.
Last season, Raines batted .334 and stole 70 bases.
