Saddleback Wins Conference Golf Championship
Led by medalist Ray Fawcett, Saddleback College won the 36-hole Orange Empire Conference golf championship at Rainbow Canyon Golf Course in Temecula, shooting 774 as a team.
Fawcett, a freshman from Capistrano Valley High School, shot 148 with rounds of 76 and 72.
Saddleback has won six straight conference titles, winning three Pacific Coast championships from 1982-84, two South Coast titles in 1985 and ’86 and this year’s Orange Empire title.
John Wardrup, a freshman from Corona del Mar, was selected the conference’s most valuable player.
