Nelson Piquet suffered a concussion and a slight injury to his left foot when his car went off the Tamburello bend at the Imola, Italy, autodrome at approximately 186 m.p.h. soon after clocking the fastest qualifying time for Sunday’s Grand Prix of San Marino Formula One race.
The 34-year-old Brazilian, a two-time world champion, was rushed to Bellaria Hospital in nearby Bologna to undergo a brain scan, but the tests showed no damage. Doctors advised Piquet against entering Sunday’s race.
