Michael Olajide won a close 10-round decision over Troy Darrell in a nationally televised middleweight fight at Atlantic City, N.J., setting the stage for a world title bout.
Olajide, of New York, is 23-0 and ranked No. 2 by the International Boxing Federation. He is scheduled to fight either No. 1 contender Thomas Hearns or the next leading available contender for the vacant IBF title.
Darrell, of New Rochelle, N.Y., incurred his first loss in 23 fights, but trainer Angelo Dundee disputed the decision.
“Michael Olajide got a Mother’s Day gift,” Dundee said. “I’m amazed my guy lost. Olajide definitely got licked.”
