Hiromi Taniguchi of Japan won the men’s division in the London Marathon, and Ingrid Kristiansen won the women’s race for the third time but failed to collect a $90,000 bonus because she didn’t break her world record.
Taniguchi, 27, who also won the Tokyo Marathon three months ago, won comfortably over Nechadi El Mostafa of Morocco in 2 hours 9 minutes 43 seconds. The course record is 2:08:16, set two years ago by Steve Jones of Britain.
El Mostafa finished second in 2:10:09.
Kristiansen, aiming to become the first woman to run a marathon in under 2:20, was timed in 2:22:48. She holds the world record of 2:21:06, set in London two years ago. Second was 42-year-old American-based Briton Priscilla Welch. Her time was 2:26.51, a British record.
