A Lake County brush fire blackened more than 750 acres and destroyed five homes, six vehicles and eight outbuildings in Clearlake Highlands, California Department of Forestry officials reported. The blaze in steep, brushy terrain, was 80% contained after burning for about 20 hours, fire spokeswoman Chris Losstrom said. She said there had been no injuries, but the fire caused $350,000 worth of damage--including burning down two trailer houses, three units of low-income housing, and a telephone microwave station. Cause of the fire had not been determined. The 280 firefighters battling the blaze were expected to have it controlled by this morning.
