Santa Monica’s ‘Calamity Jane’ Lives Up to Her Nickname--Again
A Santa Monica police officer nicknamed “Calamity Jane” for the string of misfortunes that have marked her 2 1/2-year career on the force has again run into some bad luck, police said Tuesday.
Officer Anita McKeown, 26, suffered leg and back injuries in a Saturday night traffic collision and will be off work four to six weeks, Sgt. Barney Melekian said.
Since joining the Santa Monica department in 1984, McKeown had been stabbed, shot at, struck by a speeding car and has been injured in several accidents, including auto collisions and slipping on a newly waxed floor.
“She has been through more in her 2 1/2 years than most (officers) go through in an entire career,” Melekian said.
