San Marino : New Lacy Park Schedule

Share

Beginning Aug. 15, Lacy Park will open on the third Saturday of each month for the first time since the city closed its only park on weekends in the late 1970s.

In a three-month trial program approved by the City Council at its last meeting, use of the park will be limited to 1,000 people, who may get tickets at City Hall beginning on the first day of each month. Any tickets remaining will be available at the park entrance on Virginia Road on each open Saturday between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. Residents and children under age 5 may use the park free; outsiders will be charged $3. Groups of 50 people or more will be charged a $50 fee for the first 50, plus $1 for each additional person.

City Manager John Nowak said police will patrol the park. It was violation of laws such as fence jumping, consumption of alcohol, rowdy behavior and leash laws, that led to the park being closed on weekends.

“The entire purpose of having it open on a Saturday is to promote a family outing atmosphere in response to local need,” Nowak said.
