Electricity Cut to 25,000 Customers
About 25,000 Glendale electricity customers were without power for about a half hour Friday morning after a power surge and brief fire at a power plant in the southwest portion of the city, officials reported.
Ron Stassi, Glendale’s power management director, said the flashover at about 10:45 a.m. knocked out a 34,500-volt circuit breaker at the Grayson Power Plant in the 800 block of Air Way.
Insulating oil in a circulating tank smoldered for a few minutes, Stassi said, but there was no release of PCBs or other toxic pollutants.
