Man With Broken Leg Dies in Fire
A North Park man, who was unable to escape because of a broken leg, died Friday afternoon in a fire in his home, a San Diego Fire Department spokesman said. The cause of the fire was unknown.
Daniel Webster Aids Jr., 51, died of smoke inhalation and severe burns in the 2:30 p.m. blaze on Cherokee Ave., according to the coroner’s office. He was recovering from a lower leg fracture and apparently had been using a wheelchair to get around the house, a coroner’s deputy said.
Aids shared the single-story residence with his wife and son, who were not in the house when the fire broke out, the spokesman said.
The blaze caused an estimated $150,000 damage to the house, authorities said.
The San Diego Metro Arson Strike Team is investigating the cause of the fire.
