Darron Sutton, son of Angel pitcher Don Sutton, is expected to notify Oklahoma State this week that he will enroll there. Assistant baseball coach Tom Holliday said Monday that the school expects to get a letter this week from Sutton, a right-handed pitcher, indicating he’ll be playing for the Cowboys next spring.

Steve Buzzard, sports information director for Oklahoma State, said the letter did not arrive Monday. But he said Sutton, a graduate of Capistrano Valley Christian High School, and his father had told Holliday and baseball coach Gary Ward that the letter was mailed Friday from Laguna Hills.

“We’re expecting it this week, maybe tomorrow (Tuesday),” Buzzard said.

The school has already received a national letter of intent from John Niekro, son of Cleveland Indian pitcher Phil Niekro.
