HILL’S SIDE
Did Jim Hill step on Howard Rosenberg’s shoes (“The Art of Local Sportscasting,” Aug. 5)?
Rosenberg’s column must have been motivated by something more than objective reporting. If not a personal animosity, then perhaps a large dose of jealousy. Maybe you don’t pay Rosenberg enough, particularly since he seems to feel free enough from personal mistakes to jump so hard on someone else’s.
As for me, I think that sports is an entertainment medium. Hill’s soft approach suited me fine. As for the need for “incisive reporting” and “probing,” don’t we get enough of that in important national and world affairs without granting to professional sports the same level of importance?
I may follow Jim over to Channel 7; after all, Dan Rather’s sneers already sent me over to NBC for the national news.
