The Region : Board Strives to Avert Move by Raiders

Share

In an effort to ease tensions between themselves and the Los Angeles Raiders, who have been listening to inducements to move elsewhere, Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum commissioners have authorized a special two-member subcommittee to take over negotiations with Raiders owner Al Davis and to spend up to $15 million to improve the aging stadium, said Commissioner Richard Riordan. He said that he and fellow commissioner Fred Riedman will replace Commission President Alexander Haagen in efforts to persuade the Raiders to stay. “Haagen is a tough guy,” Riordan said. “He didn’t like getting pushed around by Davis and Davis wasn’t going to get pushed around either.” The commission felt “a fresh approach was needed,” Riordan said. The Raiders have reportedly been considering potential stadium sites in Irwindale, Inglewood and Pomona.
