K-Mart Evacuated After Chemicals Fall
A shelf containing weed killers collapsed in the garden department of the K-Mart on Harbor Boulevard in Costa Mesa and caused fire officials to evacuate the store Saturday.
About five gallons of the weed killers spilled when the containers hit the concrete floor, according to Barry Adams, acting Fire Department battalion chief.
“We decided to evacuate the store as a precautionary matter,” he said. “Nobody was injured or got into the fumes.”
Members of the Huntington Beach hazardous materials unit and the Orange County public health hazardous waste management section were called to the scene.
