ORANGE COUNTY PREP FOOTBALL : Hindered by Injuries, Carter Gets Only 4 Carries, May Be Sidelined

Edison High School’s Kaleaph Carter, one of the top running backs in Orange County, played sparingly in the Chargers’ 21-10 loss to El Modena Thursday at LeBard Stadium because of a pinched nerve in his neck and back spasms that may cause him to miss future games.

Carter, who gained 1,015 yards last season, rushed only 4 times for 13 yards in the loss. He also had been scheduled to play linebacker, but he did not play a down on defense.

“I haven’t got a full diagnosis from the doctor yet,” Carter said. “But I don’t feel at full strength. I can’t really get into hitting. That’s why you didn’t see me playing that much . . . I hate to say it, I hate to even think of it, but the way it feels, I may miss a few games.”

Carter, a 6-foot, 205-pound senior, said he would probably find out during the weekend the extent of the injury.
