Dana Hills 19, Laguna Hills 7--Junior quarterback Brent Gaut, filling in for senior Donny McIntyre who was sidelined with an illness, threw for one touchdown and tailback Jason Burden ran for two more in the Dolphins’ victory over the Hawks at Mission Viejo.

The game’s leading rusher was Dana Hills’ Zack Hickman, who gained 97 yards in 8 carries and was also on the receiving end of Gaut’s 12-yard touchdown pass late in the game. The pass, at 9:08 of the fourth quarter, broke a 7-7 tie. Gaut finished 5 of 11 for 63 yards.

Laguna Hills’ only touchdown came in the fourth quarter on a 13-yard pass from quarterback Chris Leigber to Brian Fleming. Fleming also kicked the extra point, tying the score at 7-7.

Dana Hills opened the scoring with 5:18 left in the first quarter, when Brian Weinrich recovered a Don Hess fumble on the Laguna Hills 43. Seven plays later, Burden scored from the nine at the 1:28 mark. Hickman kicked the extra point.

Gaut’s pass to Hickman gave the Dolphins the lead for good. Hickman missed the extra point kick. A three-yard run by Burden with 3:01 left clinched the victory. An extra-point pass failed.
