As of today, that Detroit Tigers cap that Thomas Magnum, a. k. a. Tom Selleck often sports will perch on a part owner of the team (albeit, a very small part). Tigers owner Thomas Monaghan announced Thursday that he gave Selleck 10 shares of secondary stock in the team during a trip last month to Hawaii, where he visited the set of “Magnum, P.I.” The Tigers are privately held, and Monaghan owns 97% of the stock. But Betsy Kanitz, a spokeswoman for Monaghan, said Selleck was “very ecstatic about receiving the stock.” Such Tigers players as shortstop Alan Trammell and second baseman Lou Whitaker have appeared on Selleck’s show.
