ORANGE COUNTY PREP FOOTBALL : Buena Park Deals Magnolia Third Straight Loss, 17-7

After suffering 26 straight losses at Glover Stadium, Buena Park High made it two victories in a row Friday night, defeating Magnolia, 17-7, in a nonleague game.

Buena Park is now 2-1, and Magnolia is winless in three games. Trailing 7-0 at halftime, Buena Park took advantage of a penalty against Magnolia and a blocked punt to get even with 30 seconds remaining in the third quarter.

The Coyotes had been stopped on a fourth-and-one to go situation, but Magnolia was assessed a penalty for having 12 men on the field.

Three plays later, Dave Baylor hit wide receiver Steve Lucas with a 32-yard touchdown pass. Lonnie Legg added the conversion to tie the game at 7.

After receiving the kickoff, Magnolia failed to gain and had Jody Clark’s punt blocked by Rick Tietes, the ball being recovered at the Sentinel 45-yard line. Minutes later, Legg booted a 29-yard field goal that gave the Coyotes the lead for good.

Early in the fourth quarter, running back Dan Wennerberg scored on an eight-yard touchdown run. Wennerberg led the Coyote offense with 68 yards on 19 carries.

Magnolia took a 7-0 lead with 56 seconds remaining in the first half as Bob Musgrave caught a 41-yard scoring pass from Clark. Musgrave set up the touchdown with a 41-yard interception.
