ORANGE COUNTY PREP FOOTBALL : Servite Keeps Edison Down, 34-0

It took Servite High School three weeks into the 1987 season to get its offense into high gear. The result was a 34-0 victory over Edison in a nonleague game Saturday at Anaheim’s Glover Stadium.

The loss was costly to Edison. It marked the first time since the school opened in 1959 that the Chargers have lost three consecutive games. Even more costly to their offense was a loss of running back Kaleaph Carter. Carter needed 99 yards to break the school’s rushing record held by Kerwin Bell. But he left the game after injuring his shoulder in the second quarter. He gained only 12 yards rushing.

Servite (2-0-1) received all the offense it needed from running back Bill Frank, who rushed for two touchdowns while leading the Friars’ ground attack with 133 yards in 9 carries.

Kicker Pat Blottiaux added first-half field goals from 50 and 36 yards. The Friars had 353 yards total offense.

After defeating Marina, 6-0, last Saturday, Servite recorded its second straight shutout, and Edison was able to cross midfield only twice. The Charger offense was limited to 24 yards rushing.

“We mixed it up tonight,” Servite Coach Leo Hand said. “I was pleased with the way our offense as a unit came through tonight.”
