Share

A school bus carrying at least 60 children collided with a truck on U.S. 101, just north of Soledad, injuring 18 people, the California Highway Patrol said. Officers said the bus was carrying the youngsters, ages 6 to 12, from the Soledad Unified School District when it collided with a Chevrolet Suburban truck. Investigators said the bus driver, Dean Miller Collins, 52, of Soledad, apparently failed to yield and pulled in front of the truck, which was heading north on the highway. Officials said said nine children were treated at a local hospital, mostly for cuts and scrapes. The others were treated at the scene.
